I'm glad you're here because I can help you achieve the health goals you've set for your family

Let me tell you who I am, how I got here and why we are connecting right now.

I help parents improve the physical and mental resilience of their kids, and my tool is food. That means I create dietary and lifestyle plans that help kids calm down, learn better, feel better, get better sleep, have more energy, have fewer sick days, stay off medication... and simply be happier.

And guess what?  When parents have a good strategy for their kids it allows them the space to Reframe and Reclaim their own health, identify their needs and take control of their own energy.

And When We Have Health, We Can Do Anything

Here's some stuff about me...

First and foremost.... I'm  mom to three beautiful boys and partner to an amazing artist.  We are both purpose-driven entrepreneurs trying to simplify our lives, enjoy the process of raising ourJess Sherman kids, and do our little bit to make a difference in the world.

Education, health and self development are the common threads that have run through all my work.

I first became interested in the topic of resilience when I was a high school teacher.  I was surprised to see such mental and physical frailty amongst young people. Recurrent illnesses and infections, aberrant behaviour, learning and even mood and mental health struggles, sleep conditions, all had become so commonplace that we spent a significant amount of time strategizing about them in teacher meetings.

As a team we would go through each student in our small school and troubleshoot their struggles, usually focussing on ways to help them find connection, relieve their stress, make them feel safe and empowered, and getting them extra tutoring support.

Many students responded well to our efforts and started to turn around.  But some did not and extreme measures like medication, referrals or even expulsion became our only recourse.

I felt we had failed these kids.  I felt there was something deeper we were missing.

I am not anti medicine by any means but surely, my teacher-self wondered, while medication can be a fantastic last resort or temporary intervention there must be more we could do, other paths we could explore, that could reduce our need for them even further, given their potential risks.

It was while working with these students that my interest in the factors that influence a child’s natural ability to self regulate and cope with adversity and expectation was born. To get started learning about this, watch this video

I left school teaching to study nutrition and holistic health with a particular interest in the impact of nutrition and stress on child development.- and that is where I found answers to my questions  and concerns.

DSC_2143I graduated top of my class from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in 2007 as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, (Certified Holistic Nutritionist in the province of Alberta).  I thought I had my answers.

I had learned about the deep connection between what we put in our mouths and how we think, feel, act and function. I had learned that each of us is biochemically unique and that "one man's food can be another man's poison".  I had learned how and why stress is a GAME CHANGER when it comes to our health. I had it all worked out....

And then I had my first child.

And my world changed.

I realize right quick that there's nothing simple or straight forward about feeding a family.  Pulling it all together every day can seem impossible.  Add in a few food sensitivities, a picky eater or a medical diagnosis, and sleep deprivation and it just might throw you over the edge!

We're all busy, we’re exhausted, our kids are picky, food is expensive.  I get it.  I have 3 young boys.

It's Time For Change.

My nutrition education and research has taught me about the need for good nutrition in building physical and mental resilience.... and my parenting and my work with parents has taught me how to put it all into practice in strategic, practical and simple ways.

I now work more with parents than with children and, in my nutrition practice, I have seen firstIMGP0444 hand how paying attention to diet is absolutely worth the time, energy and expense.  Shifting dietary strategies and adopting certain lifestyle measures helps kids and their  parents learn better, feel better, sleep better, calm down, relax, focus better, reduce infection, reduce allergy, have better skin, and have more consistent energy.

I have learned through almost a decade of study and practice that given the proper tools, guidance and strategy parents can improve their child’s ability to self regulate, learn, and thrive, can improve their own energy, focus and drive and reduce the need for medication by boosting the body’s innate resources.

Food is that powerful.

My 2-Step Process

Whatever your health goal - be it reducing sick days, improving skin, improving focus, calming anxiety, or even relieving symptoms of autism - I will walk you through a 2-step process that will  cut through the confusion, simplify, and  focus you in on what's most important to build mental and physical resilience ....

The 2-step process is simple.... Step 1 is to identify and remove stressors and barriers; Step 2 is to feed in a way that supports our natural processes of self regulation.

It actually is, really, that straight forward, but teasing out what it looks like in your particular situation can take some coaching.  We're all individuals and we have individual needs - that's what functional nutrition is all about.

Food is a powerful tool at your disposal.  When you learn how to use it to achieve the health goals you have for yourself and your family, you will feel empowered, confident, vibrant, in control and energized.

If you have a different vision for your family's health than what you are seeing now, taking a look at diet is a great place to start.

The dietary changes I have used with my clients have helped them reverse food allergy, stabilize mood and energy, reduce sick days, reduce dental costs, improve sleep, reduce tantrums, improve skin, reverse attention problems, improve language... and so much more.  They also help moms get their energy back, pick their libido up from the floor, and rekindle their zest for life.
